What lies ahead in 2009?

Published January 1, 2009 - Ocala Star-Banner
This month, the city of Ocala has plans to begin fixing the so called "monster pipe," which for more than 40 years has funneled the collected run-off from State Road 40 into Half Mile Creek, a tributary of the Silver River. The city will begin work on a $4.5 million effort to upgrade a series of retention ponds along SR 40 east of Southeast 25th Avenue. Marion County, meanwhile, will handle the output, initiating work on a nearly $3 million plan to reroute the monster pipe from Half Mile Creek to a retention pond to be built on 12 acres that sits across from Silver Springs and is owned by the state.
